Meet Our Teachers: Why We Love Teaching Foreign Languages | Fun World Language Academy
Meet Our Teachers: Daniela Mrozinski
Tell us a bit about yourself
I am originally from Germany and grew up bilingual in French and German. Since we lived in Germany and all my friends in Kindergarten spoke German, at some point I didn't want to speak French anymore. I felt like I was too different so I stopped speaking French and only answered my mom in German. Every summer, she’d send me to my grandma in France (Reims), whose only German word was "Kartoffel" (potato!)—so I had no choice but to speak French.
When I was six, I joined a French-German class at a regular elementary school, and we all switched between the two languages like it was the most natural thing. At recess, we’d speak only French so no one else could understand us. We had our own secret language. For me, that was the coolest thing ever, beside all the delicious French candies, I got to eat.
It was for sure not always easy for my parents to raise me bilingual, but I am very grateful they did. It has opened so many doors for me!
What do you love the most about teaching young children?
What I love most about teaching young children is their natural curiosity and enthusiasm—they're like little sponges, eager to soak up a new language. The ease with which they acquire new words, compared to adults, is also very impressive. I especially enjoy singing songs and doing crafts with them, as it makes learning a language playful, joyful, and memorable.
What do you love the most about teaching adults?
What I love most about teaching adults is their strong motivation—they come to class not just to learn the language, but also to explore the culture behind it. Their curiosity often leads to meaningful conversations and deeper engagement with the material.
What is your favorite classroom activity and why?
It’s hard to choose just one, but one of my and my students favorite classroom activities is the game Hatchi Patchi. I love using it in my in-person classes because it gets everyone actively speaking in a fun, low-pressure way—it’s a great way to build confidence and expand vocabulary.
Anything else you would like us to know about?
Outside the classroom, I enjoy listening to podcasts in different languages, swimming, and spending time with friends and family. And eating chocolate—chocolat, Schokolade… no matter the language, it’s always a favorite!
